I’ve been interested in plants ever since I was a child growing up in Wisconsin. There, we waited for the crocus to emerge as the first real sign of spring.
My favorite place to see native plants is in other people’s yards and public spaces. I love to see people living alongside functional habitats.
When I’m not gardening, I’m writing, drawing, decorating, crafting or creating.

My favorite place to see native plants In a variety of habitats, including right here in Los Angeles amidst remnant native vegetation. The lineage, resilience and wisdom of a roadside laurel sumac is inspiring.
When I’m not gardening, I’m under a tree with a book and a pen.

My favorite place to see native plants is the Backbone Trail.

I’ve been interested in plants ever since I was a young child growing up in England, helping my Dad tend to his flowers and vegetables. When I lived there as an adult, I maintained my own community vegetable garden (aka ‘allotment’).
My favorite place to see native plants is Charmlee Park in Malibu; there’s something special about being high up over the ocean. My favorite place in England is the Devil’s Kneading Trough on top of the Kent Downs near Wye.
When I’m not gardening, I’m fixing up my 1959 Morris Minor. It will run some day.
